LinkedIn is the world’s biggest online social network dedicated purely to establishing connections in a business related field with like minded professionals. It is useful for all types of people in business from the self employed to a student looking at getting a start in their chosen field.
By creating an in depth profile you can showcase your qualifications, experience, products and services, trade associations and professional organisations that you are a member of. LinkedIn enables you to re-establish connections with friends from school, college and university as well as making new connections with past and future clients and present work colleagues.
LinkedIn has over 54 million different groups available for you to join and participate in, from your local town or area to your industry or chosen profession. All groups allow you to comment and be active in their topics and discussions.

Once you have joined then you can update your details click on the profile > edit profile > link next to your name

Fill in all your details
Give a precis of your job
Add your current employer, if you start typing the company name a drop down menu will appear and if a list of companies will be suggested. If your current company is listed; select this, otherwise click add new company, give the industry and website address.
Add your photo so people will know it’s you
Add your education
Add your summary and specialities
Edit your contact settings – to set out how people can make a connection with you
Once you have completed this Update your settings
Go to profile > view profile this will show you your profile as others will view it
